Acrylic CNC routing — Gold Coast

Where laser depth isn't the right call, we CNC rout acrylic — thicker stock, complex profiles, internal pockets and slot-fits that need machined edges instead of a flame finish. The Avid CNC (2440 × 1220 mm) and Multicam SR3012V (3000 × 1220 mm) handle full-sheet acrylic work for signwriters and fitouts.

What we cut on it

Router-finish acrylic is the call when stock is thick, profiles are complex, or the part needs slot-fits and pocketing. The edge is machined-clean rather than flame-polished — finishable, but a different look.

  • Thick acrylic stock up to 12 mm in standard signage
  • Complex profiles with internal cuts, pockets and slot-fits
  • Display blocks and structural retail pieces
  • Custom panels and machined fixings

How the job runs

Send DXF, AI, SVG, PDF, EPS or DWG. Tell us thickness and material type (cast or extruded — cast routes cleaner). We confirm tooling, cut depth and feed rate against your spec, then quote with lead time. Pickup from Helensvale by appointment.

Router vs laser on acrylic

We choose process based on the job, not preference. If laser edge finish suits the part, we laser; if depth, slots or pocketing rule that out, we route. Flag the finish you need on your quote and we'll match the method.

  • Laser: best for letter sets, faces, decorative work — flame-polished edge
  • Router: best for thicker stock, internal cuts, slot-fits, pocketing
  • Mixed: parts of one job laser, parts route — quoted per file

Common questions

Frequently asked.

Why CNC instead of laser for thicker acrylic?
Beyond 8 mm, laser edge quality and cut speed both drop. The router gives a clean machined edge at full depth — and lets us add pockets, slot-fits and internal features the laser can't.
Do you supply cast or extruded acrylic?
AU-stocked signage acrylic is typically cast. Extruded is available — flag if you need it. Cast routes cleaner; extruded has tighter thickness tolerance for slot-fit work. Quote will specify which we're running.
Can you machine slots and pockets in one pass?
Yes — provide the DXF with pocket depths and slot widths annotated, or flag them in the quote notes. We confirm tooling and feed against your spec before cutting.
