V-groove ACM routing — clean folds for sign blanks
V-grooving is what lets aluminium composite panel fold cleanly along a routed line without breaking the aluminium skin. We V-groove ACM for shopfront trays, folded fascias and sign blanks — depth and angle matched to the panel thickness so the fold is factory-clean.
What we groove
V-grooving converts a flat panel into a folded one without the shop-built look of a cut-and-weld join. The groove cuts through the front skin and core, leaving the rear skin as the fold hinge.
- Shopfront fascia trays — folded faces with clean edges
- Sign blank trays — 3 or 4-sided returns folded from one panel
- Architectural cladding with folded edge details
- Lightbox returns and illuminated sign housings
- Custom panel folds to your spec
How the job runs
Send the cut and fold drawing — cut lines for perimeter, groove lines for folds, fold angle annotated. We confirm panel thickness, groove depth and groove angle, then quote. The flat panel is delivered grooved and cut; you fold and bond at install.
V-groove specs to confirm
Groove geometry drives the fold — flag these on the quote so the cut lands right.
- Panel thickness (3, 4 or 6 mm ACM)
- Fold angle (typically 90° for standard returns)
- Groove depth — through skin and core, hinge skin left intact
- Inside vs outside fold — affects which face the groove is cut on
- Bonding adhesive applied at install — not in our scope
Common questions
Frequently asked.
- How deep is a typical V-groove?
- Through the front aluminium skin and the polyethylene core, stopping just short of the rear skin. Exact depth is set per panel thickness — 4 mm ACM grooves deeper than 3 mm ACM.
- Will the panel still be strong after grooving?
- Yes — the rear skin and the bonded fold corner give the finished panel its strength. The folded edge is structurally similar to a factory-folded ACM tray.
- Do you bond or weld the corners?
- No — we cut and groove. Corner bonding (typically with structural adhesive) is the installer's scope. Flag if you need the kit packed flat for shipping vs pre-folded.
