MDF CNC routing — Gold Coast

MDF is the workshop go-to for templates, sign blanks, jigs and prototypes. We CNC rout MDF across the full thickness range on the Avid and Multicam — 3 mm through to 25 mm, repeatable across production batches.

What we cut on it

MDF cuts clean and consistent, which is exactly why it dominates the template, prototype and jig workload. Files in, parts ready to install, paint or hand off to the next stage of the build.

  • Cutting templates — layout, paint masking, drill positions
  • Sign blanks, mounting plates and substrate boards
  • Production jigs, fixtures and assembly aids
  • Cabinet panels, joinery components and prototypes
  • One-off panels for site work and fitouts

How the job runs

DXF is best; AI, SVG, PDF, EPS and DWG accepted. We confirm grade (standard / moisture-resistant / fire-rated where required), thickness and quantity, then quote with lead time. Repeat jobs run from the saved file — same cut every time.

Boundaries on MDF

Common gotchas — call them out so the quote lands clean.

  • Laser cutting MDF is reviewed per job — finish and thickness both matter
  • Painted, melamine-faced or veneered MDF needs flagging — finish affects tooling
  • No spraying, sealing or edge banding — we cut, you finish
  • Dust extraction is workshop-side; no on-site cutting

Common questions

Frequently asked.

What MDF thicknesses do you stock?
Standard signage and template stock spans 3 mm through 25 mm. Specific grade (standard / MR / FR) is confirmed per job — flag any non-standard requirement in your quote.
Can you do repeat-batch template runs?
Yes — saved files cut consistently across runs. Send the DXF once, reorder by job reference and we run the same cut against the same tooling.
Do you laser cut MDF?
On review. Some grades and thicknesses laser cleanly; others scorch or burn the edge. CNC routing is the default for MDF — laser is considered case-by-case based on finish requirements.
